Hingurakgoda Farm
CIC Seed Production Farm, the biggest seed production farm in Sri Lanka located at Hingurakgoda Divisional secretariat division in Polonnaruwa District. Polonnaruwa district is one of the famous paddy cultivation area in the country.
CIC acquired the Hingurakgoda farm from the government on a long term lease agreement in 1998. The total extent of the farm is around 1,300 acres out of which 700 acres are under paddy cultivation which cultivation carryout both Yala and Maha season.
The farm receives irrigation water from the Minneriya reservoir to produce high quality seed paddy. The highland area of the farm is utilized for production of perennial crops, vegetables, Agri eco tourism and livestock.
CIC Seed farm has been introducing and practicing modern agricultural technology and enhanced productivity through mechanization with protecting our traditional knowledge as well as conventional agricultural methods.

Mango Cultivation
The first plants of a few varieties (specially Willard, Karthcolomban, Vellei Kolomban, Ambalavi and Neelum) which were planted in Sri Lanka, is in the Hingurakgoda farm. Hingurakgoda Willard, which is one of the popular mango varieties, was discovered at the Hingurakgoda Farm.
Machinery Yard
The CIC Farm has a fully equipped machinery yard. The Maintenance of modern agricultural machinery like combine harvesters and combine threshers which are marketed by CIC are carried out here. Besides functioning as a testing location for newly introduced Agro Machinery, we design new machines too.
Paddy Cultivation
The CIC Farm is the largest seed production farm in Sri Lanka. The total extent of the paddy area is 750 acres. The full extent is used for seed paddy production. Our annual production is 130,000 bushels. The contribution to the national seed paddy production is 20%. We cultivate 10 popular varieties and they are categorized as the long, short and small grain. The two colors of the rice are red rice and white rice. Our average yield is 130 bushels per acre. The cultivation period is 3.5 months a year.
Lotus Tank
The Lotus tank at the farm was first built during the ancient times. The tank is on a 12 acre land. It consists of irrigated water. This is an ideal place for fishing and bird watching. The sunset tank was renovated and built by our company for the purpose of water for the banana cultivation. The surface area of the farm is 2 acres. This is an ideal place to watch the Sunset. Boat rides are also available for the adventurous to enjoy nature.
Plant Nursery
We maintain a plant nursery to supply quality planting materials to farmers. We produce fruit plants like mango, orange, guava.
Seed Processing
We have seed drying and seed processing Machines. The seed drying capacity is 1200 bushels per day and the seed processing capacity is 2000 bushels per day. We maintain a high physical purity of seed paddy by using the processing machine. These machinery, are the largest in Sri Lanka.
Banana Cultivation
50 acres of banana plantation has been cultivated under high technology and modern agricultural methods, for export purpose. Special, modern sprinkler irrigation system has been introduced for irrigation and fustigation.
Home Garden
People have developed their home gardens with the ancient village developed agro based culture. There are a few crops that can be grown in the home garden such as, medicinal plants, spices, vegetables, fruits, yams.
Livestock Production
The high yielding Murrah & Nili Ravi breeds of buffalo herd is maintained at the farm for milk production as well as breeding purposes. Currently, the Hingurakgoda farm has the best buffalo herd in the country. We produce Sri Lanka s best quality curd which is made under very hygienic conditions and sold in all reputed supermarkets. The farm is equipped with a milk processing center and a laboratory. The milking is fully mechanized.
Compost Production
We have a compost production programme in the farm and we produce high quality compost, using bio mass and buffalo dung that is available in the farm. We supply packed compost to the market while the majority of what we produce is used in the farm to improve the soil.
Wild Life Richness
Immigrated and hereditary birds, reptiles, butterflies and a few species of mammals can be observed in the farm, in the reservoirs and water logged areas. The peacock is a very beautiful bird and it can be observed throughout the year at the farm. As for mammals, you can observe Monkeys, Rabbits and Rodents.
Commercial Vegetable Cultivation
Dry zone vegetables and most of the up country vegetable are grown with incorporating modern agriculture practices and using appropriate technology. Latest introduced hybrid vegetable verities and modern irrigation system like sprinkler and drip are used to improve the production and the productivity of the land. Apart from the technology enhancement use of balance fertilizer and indigenous technology of controlling pest and disease are practiced. We have earned fresh green and clean vegetable to our own supper market chain and other prominent super markets.
Stores Complex
The farm has 40,000 bushels of seed paddy storage capacity and it is used for storing paddy and other agri inputs.
Paddy Drying
Mainly sun light is used for paddy drying and the required infrastructures like drying floors are available at the farm. CIC farm has seed dryer and this will use for seed paddy drying and the capacity is 1,200 bushels per day.
Paddy husk Charcoal Production
The farm has paddy husk charcoal production unit and using as a soil improvement input for the paddy fields. Especially paddy husk charcoal is used to control soil salinity.
Coconut Plantation
The farm has 40 acres of coconut plantation and majority is fairly young. It is expected to come into full bearing within 3 years.
